Galvanized Helical Steel Piers

The helical pile foundation system is perfect for a wide range of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential applications

  • Applications for Helical Piers
  • They also come in handy when there is structural damage to the foundation or the structure is built in unstable soil such as cases where the soil has very high water content.

You can tell that the foundation is damaged by the following signs:

  • There is cracking on the interior plaster walls
  • The floor starts to become uneven
  • Door and window frames leave large gaps when closed. You may find it difficult to close the door or the window.
  • Nails pop up in ceilings
  • Presence of crack in basement walls
  • Leaning chimney

A helical pier is a foundation pin made of steel that contains helices just like screws. Helical piers are used to support structures, especially where soil conditions are challenging, making it hard to set up a traditional foundation system. Instead of expensive large excavations, they thread deep into the ground. They are also used to repair existing foundations that have problems such as cracks or are weak. Helical piers minimize time spent installing a foundation, causes little disturbance to the soil, and transfer the weight of the structure, to soils deep into the earth that would bear the load.

How Helical Piers Work

The screw piles are driven into the soil until the predetermined load capacity is achieved. They are spaced at pre-determined intervals to share the weight of the structure. When used for foundation repairs, brackets are attached to the base of the walls to transfer the weight to the pile. They are generally installed between ten to thirty feet below the ground level but may be extended deeper if they do not meet the required torque.

The helical pier foundation is preferred over driven piles, drilled shafts, grouted tendons, auger-cast piles, belled piers and other deep foundation systems for a number of compelling reasons. Some of them are listed below.

  • Fast installation and immediate loading
  • Pre-engineered system
  • Eliminates high-mobilization costs associated with driven piles, drilled shafts or auger-cast piles
  • Instant torque-to-capacity feedback for production control
  • Easily modified in the field
  • No need for concrete to cure
  • Uses common construction equipment easily fitted with hydraulically-driven torque motors
  • Easy to use in limited access sites, high water tables, and weak surface soils
  • No need to remove spoils
  • No casings are required for flowable sands, soft clay or organic soils
  • Minimizes soil disturbance during installation
  • Installs in inclement weather
  • No vibration
  • Environmentally friendly
